Welcome to “Hangar Talk” – what it is and what it’s not   …

(other sites are available)

This website is a repository for articles that might be interesting, amusing or even useful. Mostly the topics relate to General Aviation with a bit of drift off topic onto a few personal snapshots of life in the rural village where I live and experiences managing various aviation and activity holiday companies.

We live in a world of false news. I cannot personally bother about people who think vaccine injections enable the state or even green lizards from outer space to control you.  You cannot communicate with complete idiots. Much more pernicious is material posted by well-meaning people who have little real grasp of their subject. Aviation seems particularly susceptible to this.

I guess that flying grabs people attention and interest. In most ways that’s a good thing but the other side of the coin is that anyone with a PPL or possibly even a 12-year-old who is good with Microsoft flight simulator feels they should post on the subject. Often their understanding is at best very limited and is often simply wrong.

Anything that I post is the informed by 30 years and nearly 5000 hours of flying, all in GA aircraft and mostly paid for out of my own pocket.  I have started or managed about 20 small to medium sized companies. That does not mean I am always right but the opinions stem from long expensive hard-won experience.

I am not necessarily trying to persuade others to adopt my views. You will see that the website makes no provision for on line chats or e mail contact.  I do hope that I come to many topics with a thoughtful perspective that does not accept all the conventional wisdom. If that inclines a few pilots to rethink their own ideas a little then I will feel the effort is worthwhile.

You will find a short section with a synopsis of my background. This is simply intended to help readers judge the experience that underpins the opinions.  Most of the material is original but my current aircraft a PA 30 Twin Comanche is over 50 years old, probably the last  type I will own, and something of a cult object.

Here I thought it worthwhile to include links or local copies of material I have found useful.

You are welcome to use any material on the site in any way you wish but a short credit as to its origin would be appreciated.
